The Common Admission Test (CAT)

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a computer-based entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for admission to their MBA programs. The CAT exam is one of the most competitive exams in India, with over 2 lakh candidates appearing for the exam every year.

Eligibility:

  • Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institute.
  • Candidates must have scored at least 50% marks in their bachelor's degree (45% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).
  • There is no age limit for appearing in CAT exam.

 

Exam format:

  • The CAT exam is a computer-based test of 3 hours duration.
  • The exam consists of three sections:
    • Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC): This section tests the candidate's ability to understand and interpret written material.
    • Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR): This section tests the candidate's ability to analyze data and solve logical reasoning problems.
    • Quantitative Ability (QA): This section tests the candidate's ability to solve mathematical problems.

 

Syllabus:

  • The syllabus for CAT exam is based on the NCERT Class XI and XII syllabus for Mathematics, English, and Logical Reasoning.

  • CAT 2023 registration: August 3, 2023 to August 24, 2023
  • CAT 2023 exam date: November 26, 2023
